Patterns of meaning and interpretation are coined by the unique cultural traits of the participants, and these patterns are largely subconscious. When a team consists of members from different national or corporate cultures, it is not unusual that something is understood in a way that was not intended.
Misunderstandings impair the work atmosphere and ultimately affect the performance of the entire group. The individual feels misunderstood and is not motivated to develop and contribute to common goals.
